Advantages and Disadvantages of Soybean Ink

Published on May. 20, 2020

The current understanding of green ink is mainly divided into the following two aspects: from a narrow sense of view, green ink refers to the use of the human body almost no harm to the raw materials, in the production and printing process of ink almost no pollution, do not pose a threat to the living environment of the ink varieties; In a broad sense, green ink refers to the reduction of raw materials harmful to the environment and human components, reduce the production and use of ink harmful to the environment and human components, easy to recover, reduce the "secondary pollution" of the ink varieties.

Due to the emission of VOCs that can seriously pollute the environment, plant oil-based offset printing ink is more and more popular. Soy oil thermal curable ink is one of the main varieties of vegetable Oil offset printing inks, which has gradually replaced the common offset printing inks and has been widely used in the commercial field.

1) advantages of soybean ink

Environmental protection. Soybean ink is a slight purification of soybean oil, and pigment, resin, and other additives mixed. Replacing oil with vegetable oil reduces the use of fossil materials and relieves the shortage of earth resources. And soy ink required less volatile organic matter than oil ink, reducing air pollution. Its pigment degradation rate is also four times that of standard gasoline ink.

The economy. Soy ink is purer than oil extract, to achieve the same dyeing effect, the former requires less pigment, also reduce the cost of ink. The hazardous waste research and information center of the Illinois Department of energy and resources conducted a study of soybean inks in the 1990s, and many printers reported that "soybean inks can be up to 15 percent more ductile than conventional inks, further reducing ink usage and printing costs. Although the average price of soybean ink is 5 to 10 percent higher than the average price of gasoline ink, in the use of pigment, volatile organic compounds, and printing machine cleaning costs, the former to spend less. What's more, with less soy ink, can be printed than oil ink more bright eye-catching print.

Resistance to friction and heat. In general, newspaper readers' hands are often stained with ink when they read. This is because, after using traditional ink printing substrate ink is easy to rub off. Soybean ink is more resistant to friction than traditional ink so that newspaper readers do not suffer from hand black and no bad odor. The boiling point of soybean ink is much higher than that of petroleum volatile components, and when heated by a laser printer or copier, it will not volatilize and stick to paper, nor will it contaminate machine parts.

Good inking. Compared with curing ink or waterless offset ink, soybean oil ink drying speed is slower. But from the practical results, ink transfer is good, the field part of the ink is good, part of the dot color uniform. Common offset printing ink to paper, due to the rapid penetration of the solvent, near the surface of the paper, the ink film will have broken off phenomenon, and soybean oil ink due to slow penetration, the stripping surface of the ink closer to the blanket side, which is equivalent to a thicker ink film transfer to the surface of the paper, so ink transfer increased.

Good laser resistance. Soybean ink is the best choice when printing materials need to be laser resistant. It has a much higher boiling point than petroleum, and when the ink is heated by a laser press or photocopier, it will not evaporate and stick to the paper, nor will it contaminate the parts of the press.

Good color. Soy ink raw materials such as salad oil cooking oil, by Japan's elite class printing company to jointly develop and Toyo ink company, as a kind of refined vegetable oil, salad oil through a series of strict decolorization, deodorization and to remove free fatty acids and other refining processes processing, it has very good liquidity and coloring, and high transparency and bright colors, not easy fade, is suitable for a wide range of color printing. Water-free printing UV mixed soy ink in deinking performance, recovery is not a problem; No need to spray powder, can print high quality printed matter, in the film, printing coating and other post-processing can also get good printed matter, improve the operating environment.

Multiple effects are excellent. Compared with traditional ink, soybean ink has bright color, high concentration, good luster, better water adaptability and stability, friction resistance, drying resistance, and other properties.

2) shortcomings of soybean ink

Not suitable for personal printers;

Because there are no volatile organic compounds in the presence of soy ink than the general gasoline ink dry slow;

Vacuum soy printing ink, which relies on a single crop, can be a problem in the event of a pest or disease threat.

Printing ink manufacturers in China reminds you that ink is not the whole printing process, and while green ink may have a slight impact on the production process, only a comprehensive environmental protection program can ensure the long-term stable development of a printing enterprise.
